Terramada is a permaculture association, created for the sustainable development of us all in balance with our habitat and the planet. The Association respects and upholds the basic principles of permaculture: ‘with’ and ‘to back up’ Nature.
It is based in a small valley on the banks of the Beliche Reservoir in an area called Barrocal Algarvio, where human desertification and desertification of soils are highly widespread. Terramada appears, in this context, to help solve this problem. Permaculture is central for a better care of soils and the harmonization of all elements on the ecosystem. Allied to reforestation, its contribution is an example for inverting the process of desertification.
We promote environmental education with groups, in activities or visits. The subjects are: permaculture, ecology and sustainability. We emphasize: reforestation, the plantation and maintenance of an eco-vegetable-garden in permaculture, the use of renewable energies, reduction and reuse of waste (through composting, earthworm-culture, construction and other artistic activities).
Recently the association is more opened to the public, with the creation of an eco-village.
We look forward to motivate interested people in this project.
At first, through participation in our activities to learn more about our project (campaigns such as the reforestation, volunteer work, maintenance of space, bio-construction, courses and workshops, open days, etc.)

Please, tell us in advance the dates of your arrival/staying. If we don’t inform you previously that we have a place for you to stay, it’s better that you bring a camping tent and sleeping bag.
Have in mind that you are responsible for:
everything that you bring: from your arrival till your departure.
Ask about where to put your refuse.
Reduce consuming by re-using what you can.
Respect private spaces and schedules (sleeping: unless there is an organized party, we ask everyone to remain quiet between 23.00h to 08.00h).
we also:
If you are a smoker, please use spaces that don’t have vegetation and put all the butts of your cigarettes in a special receptacle (please, ask if necessary).
Terramada doesn’t have any political nor religious definition. The residents are free to decide in the exterior of Terramada and are responsible for not using the name of the association to due ends.
Food
All diets are welcome, since the surplus is re-used and appropriately treated. the goal is to give a useful destination to leftovers. They can enter the process of de-composting (or another) closing the biologic cycle.
Residents food options in Terramada are depend on what is available on vegetable gardens and orchards and so can be seasonal. Some of the food has to come from the exterior. Our diet is however mostly vegetarian.
Sometimes we have fruits and vegetables available that can be shared among everyone (please consult the person in charge).
We welcome all individuals and their differing ability to work. Should you have any special requirements that may prevent you from undertaking your normal tasks or require help whilst you are staying with us, please let someone know.
We value the maintenance of all equipment and respectfully ask you to return all tools used at the end of any workshop or activity.
working schedules should be respected. Exceptional absence or delay may be justified and compensated afterwards (except in case of disease or accident that are restraining people to work).
All working tools should be put in their right place at the end of the day/period of work. We leave the working place when everything is cleaned up.
After the activities developed we should keep places cleaned and organized.
